Description

Defence is the hardest part of playing bridge, but that doesn't mean that it's impossible to learn. In this final book of the bestselling "25" series, the authors explain how to make a plan as a defender: how to work out from the auction and play what declarer probably has, and which of the strategies available to defenders is likely to be successful. Opening leads, signalling and discarding are all covered in this basic guide to a vitally important topic.

4Defence Help!  May 06, 2007 By William H. Baker "billy the bake"
Defence is the hardest part of the wonderful world of bridge. As in all their books, these writers offer tips that are not only first rate but understandable for the accomplished player as well as someone trying to learn the game and everyone in between.

5Bridge enlightened  Feb 26, 2009 By Sandra Loos "Sandi"
The first book I've read that explains to me 'why' a certain defense works. I have a hard time memorizing rules, but I can understand logic and the logic provided by the author makes it much easier to apply the rules - especially in situations where a little creativity is needed in order to defend a contract.

4Bridge Defender  Mar 19, 2007 By Charles J. Hesner
It is an excellent book. The subject is difficult to define a set

of rules. However, this book tries perhaps too hard to force a variety of conventions which leads to some confusion. Nevertheless, the book is very useful and should be on the bookself with other bridge books.

5Great bridge book  May 21, 2010 By Susan Tordella-Williams "Raising Able"
I've been boning up on my defense this year and Barbara has a really simple way to explain difficult concepts. I like her approach, her examples and the tips to remember at the end of the chapter. In fact, I copied her method of repeating the important points in my book, "Raising Able: how chores cultivate capable confident young people." [...]>Well done, Barbara. I own another of your books too - "25 Conventions You Should Know" and I reccomend the books, too, to people making the leap from social bridge to duplicate bridge.

5Learn better defense  Mar 23, 2012 By writer
I've played bridge for a few years, but "25 ways to be a better defender" provides lots of tips for defending better. Whether you want to incorporate all the book recommends or even a few of the suggestions, you'll become a better defender. Defense is the hardest thing to learn about the "play of the game". I've reread several chapters in the book, and find that's the best way to start defending a hand better.
